Vertical and overhead welding parameters in double wire automatic welding of pipeline

  • Objective This study aims to optimize welding parameters of double wire automatic welding technology for vertical and overhead welding positions in all-position welding of pipeline, so as to improve welding stability and quality in vertical and overhead welding. Methods An orthogonal test method was employed, using variation coefficient of welding heat input collected and calculated during welding as an indicator of welding stability. The main welding parameters affecting welding stability in vertical and overhead welding positions, including wire extension, wire feeding speed, welding speed, voltage correction and pulse correction, were systematically analyzed. Results The results show that the optimal vertical and overhead welding parameters in double wire automatic welding are as follows. In vertical welding process, wire extension is 13 mm, wire feeding speed is 14 m/min, welding speed is 800 mm/min, voltage correction is −1.5 and pulse correction is −1. In overhead welding process, wire extension is 11 mm, wire feeding speed is 12 m/min, welding speed is 600 mm/min, voltage correction is −2.5 and pulse correction is −1. Conclusion The optimal welding parameters determined by this study effectively ensure welding stability of vertical and overhead welding in double wire automatic welding technology, providing important data support for the application and promotion of this technology in pipeline engineering.
