Design and application validation of automated tooling for box welding assembly

  • Objective In response to the challenges of low efficiency and difficulty in ensuring quality consistency in domestic box welding and assembly, this study analyzes existing problems in welding assembly tooling and processes, and proposes functional requirements for automated welding assembly tooling. Methods Based on the structural characteristics of the product, key mechanisms of the automated tooling—including product positioning and fixation, contour-forming, and rotary transmission, were designed. The overall structure and the design approach for the drive control system were also analyzed. Results The manufacturing of the automated welding assembly tooling was completed, and key parameters were measured. The tooling was validated through multiple product welding assembly tests. Conclusion Experiments and practical applications demonstrate that the automated tooling and its key mechanisms effectively address the challenges encountered in box welding and assembly.
