Effects of heat input on particle distribution in laser welded Al/TiB2 composites

  • The weldability of TiB2 particle reinforced aluminum matrix was researched based on fiber laser welding on 4 mm thick plate. The TiB2 particles distribution and morphology were studied separately through optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results showed that Al/TiB2 composite presented well weldability. The TiB2 particles in the weld seam distributed more homogeneously than that in base metal. The TiB2 particle appeared to crack when the laser heat input was up to P = 4. 0 k W and v= 1 m/min,but the interface between TiB2 and base metal was close and intact which did not affect the serving properties.
