Bonding interface and wear ploperty of high chromium cast iron by electroslag hardfacing layer

  • The high chromium cast iron(HCCI)hardfacing coating was deposited on low alloy steel(LAS)by electroslag surfacing method. The microstructures of composite layer were observed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscope, and X ray fluorescence. The hardness and wear resistance of HCCI hardfacing coating were measured.Meanwhile, the effects of process parameter such as welding current, welding voltage, and cavity size on power input and forming quality were discussed in detail. The results illustrate that the high thickness HCCI hardfacing layer without defect can be achieved at the power input of 6-6.5 W/mm and the thickness of transition zone is about 500μm.The average hardness of HCCI hardfacing layer(700 HV)is about 2 times of that of the LAS substrate. The abrasion weight loss of hardfacing layer is 27.3% of low alloy steel, which shows an obvious advantage in wear resistance.
